How do you plan to accommodate low-income neighborhoods who need alternative transportation methods?

First, as noted above, I will ensure that transportation planning efforts address displacement of low-income and working families near new or existing transit corridors or bus routes.
Unfortunately, access to rail or rapid transit buses is often related to rising housing costs, pushing out lower-income households; we must be on guard that increasing alternative transportation modes does not displace residents most in need of those options. I will also work with Cap Metro and transportation planners to focus service on low-income neighborhoods where transit needs are greatest.

In addition, I will work to encourage healthy affordable transportation options for all residents by supporting the funding and implementation of Austin’s Bicycle Master Plan and Urban Trails Master Plan in sequence and in balance with the city’s budgetary capabilities.
