The University of Texas is arguably the largest concentration of young residents in the city of Austin, yet the area has only been granted two polling locations. What is your stance on adding more polling locations to college campuses?

Natasha Harper-Madison

City Council, District 1

A lack of access to polling locations is one of many efforts to suppress voting. This tactic is deployed in high concentrations of young people, people of color, lower income and generally underrepresented voters. Travis County should add additional voting locations. Voting is the most direct way to participate in our political process, and it is our duty as a society to facilitate participation in democracy. Travis County Clerk Dana DeBeauvoir should ensure that polling is available at the FAC on UT Campus, find at least one location in West Campus, and ensure that Huston-Tillotson, ACC, and all other areas where students and young people gather have ready access to  vote.
