Homestead exemptions are a nuanced issue. I’m in favor of property tax relief for low income, elderly and differently abled residents. However, the assessment is made based on the value of the home and at all income levels, making it difficult to reconcile that wealthier homeowners, though less likely to NEED the tax relief, receive more than the aforementioned populations.

A more targeted relief effort, based on income would relieve the burden on the city’s budget and the burden that inherently falls on renters and businesses.
