This is tricky. As we know Texas has the nation’s highest uninsured rate, by nearly half as far as I can tell. There is clearly work to be done here. There are benefits to single payer healthcare that include a more comprehensive approach to prevention- which I believe is the way to go. Given that council is limited in influencing the decisions on statewide healthcare legislation, I will say I’m in support of moving towards single payer as a tool to aid and push us towards an ideal pursuit of universal healthcare.
