As you know, the City unsuccessfully tried to change the code, what do you believe needs to be done differently to achieve a better code? Will you support working to revise the land development code to provide and allow for predictability and deep affordability? (Y/N; Explain)

Frank Ward III

City Council, District 8

While I initially supported the land development code rewrite that CodeNEXT would have ushered in, city leadership allowed the effort to become far too convoluted—at a certain point, it became weighed down and was no longer the focused rewrite we needed. The rapid growth of Austin is ongoing, and we must work towards developing a solid code rewrite—we don’t need a moratorium on this. We need to get started right away. City Council should look into what went wrong with the CodeNEXT process, draw from the effort what is still workable and helpful, and then diligently and efficiently labor to develop a land development code that accounts for a 21st Century version of Austin.
