How would you counteract anti-immigrant sentiment to make our local communities welcoming to all?

Danielle Skidmore

City Council, District 9

As the daughter of an immigrant, I know immigrants are the fabric of our communities and define the “American Dream”. Although my family’s immigration experience is far more privileged than those currently crossing the border in Texas, I advocate for these immigrants because they deserve the same opportunities we had. Being progressive means welcoming others, not building a wall to the South nor around our city. I plan to work with local organizations (Grassroots Leadership, WDF) with the expertise and capacity in organizing to protect immigrant rights. Austin is a place of compassion and friendship; ICE has no place in a city where so many seek refuge and acceptance.
