What is your vision for the future of high capacity transit in Austin?

Paige Ellis

City Council, District 8

Democrat

My long term vision for Austin is an effective mass transit system such as rail. For the current Metro Rail system to work it should be more expansive than one rail line that closes during the 6 o’clock hour. Rail is not the only answer, but it’s big picture transit solutions like this that need to be reconsidered.

In the interim, I would like to consider options such as larger park-and-ride facilities with shuttles from Southwest Austin to downtown and North Austin, however this is only a band aid to a larger problem. Other fixes such as TNCs, bike share, and even scooters offer some transit solutions – particularly for getting around downtown, South Congress, and other densely populated areas – but to effectively address our mass transit problem we need to think bigger.
