How will you help address the affordability problems in Austin?

Paige Ellis

We must have more diverse housing options. This means density where it is appropriate, in places where residents will also have access to mobility options, and along transit corridors outside of watershed protection zones.

But it’s not just housing – and too many people limit the affordability discussion to that topic. As I’ve knocked on doors in Southwest Austin (close to 1,000 at this point) residents have expressed to me that they also want an economy that supports a strong middle class. Because affordability is not just limited to housing, it also includes the ability of our people to support their families in other ways, be that transportation, school supplies, and quality of life. Attracting and keeping businesses in the area that contribute to a strong economy are critical for supporting a strong middle class.
