As a majority-minority state, what role do you see Austin playing in the long-term conversation around immigration and migrant rights?

Linda O’Neal

City Council, District 9

Austin is a lot like San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle.  We have become a predominantly white city, and a rich city (for some).  Progressives love their yard scenes (and I love mine), but we have to do better.  Progressives need to recognize their own racism when they label schools “bad” or “good” because that is usually based on color.  Progressives need to make sure that boundaries are drawn in a way that is more diverse. If you want our children to have a better understanding of the “other”, then they have got to get know each other.
