Education is my top priority.  I will fight to restore the State’s share of funding for schools to 45% which was in place in 2011.  The funding level now is 38% with 7% taken out for charter schools causing property taxes to be higher.  In Texas, every student should receive the same high quality education no matter where they live. We must change the funding structure for schools to account for students of every socioeconomic background.  It is essential to pay teachers more. Funding for retired teachers health insurance needs to be reinstated to previous levels.
