City Council, District 8
Yes; increased density and infill in central Austin is consistent with the Imagine Austin Growth Concept Map, which is the City’s vision for where growth and redevelopment should be directed. In large part, the Growth Concept Map envisions this growth along transit corridors and within regional and town centers, which are the obvious places for higher-density multi-family uses.
But, that’s not to say that multi-family uses are inappropriate in other areas of town. Even in some lower-density, greenfield areas, multi-family uses may be a great way to cluster development and maximize the amount of open space that is preserved. Additionally, I would support and lead efforts for the City of Austin to acquire land in growth centers to build dense, publicly-owned housing.
