In 2014 I ran for this seat. As a first-time candidate I managed to out-fundraise an opponent who had held the seat for nearly two decades. Despite mounds of evidence in the balance of a federal indictment against said opponent, I was absolutely destroyed in the polls. People did not show up to vote for my opponent, rather they pushed a single digital button that read “Straight Party Vote”. There is absolutely no chance whatsoever that any candidate from outside of the political duopoly can possibly play a role in the Texas legislature under our laws. Mathematically it is NOT possible.
