What is your vision for the future of high capacity transit in Austin?

Justin Jacobson

City Council, District 3

It has to be an integral part of our transit solution. I see this as a combination of (true) light rail and bus rapid transit in dedicated transit lanes. In the near future the mix will likely lean more towards buses, given the required capital investments, but shouldn’t completely omit rail.  If there will be a bond for Capital Metro coming within the next few years and I am committed to making sure it contains a rail line from the airport to downtown. District Three needs it and so does Austin. If we don’t start making room for a bright vision of tomorrow we are just going to wind up lost in the dark. If we are to become a truly global city, we need these kind of options. I believe it’s the political will that’s really keeping us back.
