What do you see as the City’s responsibility toward addressing the digital divide in Austin, and what steps would you take to bridge that divide?

Justin Jacobson

City Council, District 3

Overcoming this divide has lifelong implications for residents of Austin. With the realities of today’s economy, the impact of not being able to operate in digital world can be what prevents one from ascending up the economic ladder. For those that aren’t there yet, we can leverage our tools in community centers and the public libraries. By tapping into the world class tech talent we have in Austin, we can make sure that courses are offered that both teach basics and the cutting edge skills of the day. It’s also possible to make sure that in any future affordable/income restricted housing created is equipped with access to high speed internet and other necessary tools. The city has a chance to direct the infrastructure where it is most lacking.
