As a majority-minority state, what role do you see Austin playing in the long-term conversation around immigration and migrant rights?

Vincent Harding

City Council, District 1

Austin has been a leader in the immigrant and migrant rights conversation in Texas. Part of the issue is the hostile state and national administrations. We must fight them where we can, but also work to change them as well. It is often said that Austin is the blueberry in the tomato soup in Texas, but I think we need to alter that way of thinking going forward. We need to work with our fellow cities, like Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, and others to stand up against policies that would attack immigrants and migrants. We will continue to lead by example, and do right by our immigrant communities, and we need to build coalitions with other cities.
