Homestead exemptions are important tools to help lower tax costs and cap the amount of which taxes will increase in a certain year. The majority of people I have spoken to in District 1 did not agree with increasing the City’s homestead exemption from 8 percent to 10 percent because the loss of millions of dollars in city services was not worth the small savings to the everyday homeowner.
