How do you think the city should use technology to engage the public and share information about complex policy proposals such as Imagine Austin and CodeNext?

Rich DePalma

City Council, District 8

I believe that technology affords so many new options for civic engagement – from polling or sending messages to government leaders via text or allow community participation at council meetings via Skype as just some examples. I personally would like to see a tool like Kialo used for debate, Tableau for data analysis, and ArcGis for mapping and spatial analysis.
I recognize that we can not assume that everyone has internet access, and even if we had universal internet, that everyone would know how to use it or that they know how to access resources available to them. We need a greater focus training programs that ensure everyone in our community, including our most disadvantaged, have access to technology, information, and means to engage with city government.
