Rich DePalma
City Council, District 8
I’ve been an active member of the Democratic Party for my entire adult life. The day! moved to Travis County in 2006, I went online to find the closest Democratic club meeting and joined Tejano Democrats. I immediately starting volunteering with President Barack Obama’s campaign as well as the re-elect Valinda Bolton campaign. Since then, I have continued to volunteer on campaigns for candidates and issues like Sheriff Sally Hernandez and the AISD School Bond. From the numerous rallies I’ve attended with the Party to volunteering with registering voters – I have been an active member of the Travis County Democratic Party. While Andy Brown was Chair, I was a Finance Committee member, and was a part of the host committee for the JBR Dinner.
For the last few years I have served as Vice President of the Austin Environmental Democrats and have been an active member of Tejano Democrats and Circle C Democrats. I put myself out there in clubs where often I am the only person of color in the room. I make this effort in hopes that Austin and our Party will someday be a fully inclusive community.
As I write this, I am proud to learn that I just earned the endorsement of my community’s democratic club – Circle C Area Democrats and I believe this endorsement reflects my commitment to both community and party.
