I have long been a supporter of open government and open data, and over the years, have worked to expand digital access to information, including changes to the campaign finance system to make such data searchable. As a policy advisor to CM Morrison, I helped push to make more raw data available on the website, so residents would be free to access and use data in ways that the City might not have even thought of. Additionally, we helped increase transparency in the City’s procurement policies by publishing the city’s ongoing contracts so people could see what services are being provided and at what rates, which could potentially lead to more competitive bidding and efficiencies.
