Ending STAAR is my main objective for the upcoming legislative session. Each year, STAAR proves its inefficacy in assessing growth in Texas students. With a common sense plan that can both accurately assess growth through each school year, while doubling as a fast-track for special education services, I believe detailed portfolios can provide relief from both the taxpayer burden, as well as the incredible stress placed upon students and teachers. Rather than legislating our teachers and administrators into the ground, I believe our state needs to allow more freedom at the local level.
