City Council, District 5
The people of Austin and Central Texas have an urgent need for real choices about how they get around. Our transportation problems are a threat to people’s livelihoods, our community’s future, and increasingly the lives of our fellow Austinites. I am working with Capital Metro, the City of Austin and our community to set a path for a high capacity transit system (Project Connect) that uses new technology with the goal of increasing equity and access to jobs in the city and region. High capacity transit must connect with other options to create an entire transportation system. A high capacity system connects people and places through a complete, congestion-proof system of reliable and frequent high-capacity transit services running in dedicated pathways or on tracks, away from other traffic.
