The Council’s joint subcommittee with Travis County and AISD is drastically under-utilized. We need to use this as an opportunity not only to have high-level policy discussions but as a means to coordinate staff-level efforts to coordinate on joint priorities. It would be wise for us to try to replicate this coordination with other school districts and, potentially, certain levels of the State of Texas. The Community Action Network fills a bit of this role, at least in assessing community needs and helping us direct funds in a data-focused way. I have never been one to shy away from picking up the phone and asking for help, and I will make sure that I am reaching out to our county commissioners and other leaders when I see opportunities to work together.
